Hello Saints
My Fellow Saints,
On Thursday night, Dec. 19th, Jefferson Jr. & Sr. High families and staff received the letter (posted below) from the Jeffco School District. In essence, the letter reveals that the District is seriously considering closing Jefferson Jr. & Sr. High.
This is a Call to Action: let your voices and ideas be heard!
A series of five meetings will begin on Tuesday, January 28th. I will share another post soon with the specific dates, times, locations, and a link to the RSVP form for those planning to attend.
Stay tuned and get involved!
Dear Jefferson area staff and families,
Since the 1950s, the Jefferson area schools have proudly educated diverse generations of Saints who contribute to a vibrant Jeffco Public Schools community. Today, after decades of declining enrollment, the Jefferson articulation area serves the fewest number of students in Jeffco. Jefferson Jr/Sr serves just around 600 students in grades 7-12 whereas other similar schools serve 980-1200 students.
Even with extra funding, it has become increasingly difficult to provide a secondary education experience that provides a wide variety of core academic classes, electives, and extracurricular activities that students need, deserve, and desire. The Jefferson community has expressed a clear desire for change.
On June 11, 2024, the Edgewater Collective wrote: “Without blaming hard working educators, we need to acknowledge that Jefferson is in need of renovation and redesign. Incremental changes haven’t worked. We’ve been through too many principals. Our children, families, and educators deserve to be part of conversations where we dream big about what could be at Jefferson.”
A districtwide boundary studypublished in Spring 2024 raised concerns about sustainability and recommended that the district engage with the community to plan for the future.
Please visit this webpageto stay up-to-date on the process. We look forward to seeing you in 2025.
In partnership,
